<p>Laura is an Irish designer and glassblower with BA (Hons) qualifications in Glass Design and in Art History &amp; Design from the National College of Art and Design in Dublin. She has taught the public how to make objects out of glass in the Corning Museum of Glass, completed an internship as a glass-blowing assistant in Olustvere Glass Studio in Estonia, and has worked under a master glass-blower in LoCo Glass Studio, Gloucestershire.</p> <p>The focus of Laura’s MA at Plymouth College of Art has centred around the question of how new digital design technologies can combine with traditional glass-making to create a more sustainable craft practice in the production setting.</p> <p><a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/posts/ma-student-laura-quinn-reports-back-on-her-creative-trip-to-gijon" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Laura recently returned from a Creative Jam</a> focused on sustainable design in Gijón, Spain, as part of the Atlantic Youth Creative Hubs (AYCH) project. Alongside attendees from Portugal, Spain, France, England, and Northern Ireland, Laura took part in workshops and hackathons to learn new digital skills and design creative solutions that respond to the climate emergency.</p> <p>During her time at Plymouth College of Art, Laura has already honed her use of CAD and other digital software to model and print out her concept designs in 3D before producing them in hot glass, a process that cuts down on waste in a high-energy process. The AYCH offered Laura an opportunity to build on these digital skills and join a network of upcoming international residencies.</p>

<p>Chloé is a multidisciplinary designer who graduated with a First Class BA (Hons) Contemporary Crafts (now <a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/courses/undergraduate/ba-hons-craft-material-practices" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">BA (Hons) 3D Design Crafts</a>) in 2017. Her practice examines the dialogues that are formed between people and the landscapes from which they work and live, with a particular interest in the relationships that are developed in the food industry.</p> <p>Now an MA graduate from Royal College of Art, Chloé describes her current collections as being formed “in response to two Michelin-starred restaurants, where they are now in use: Kitchen Table in Marylebone and Sosban &amp; The Old Butchers on the Isle of Anglesey”. The collections are intended to create “physical and sensory connections between the restaurants, their suppliers and the natural landscape from which the ingredients are sourced.” An example of this can be seen in the natural glaze that Chloé made for Kitchen Table, developed using waste oyster shells from Porthilly Oyster Farm.</p>
