Young Arts | Holiday Club (February Half Term)

Course Duration

1-3 days

Arts University Plymouth’s Young Arts programme was established in 1988. Young Arts feature the university's renowned Saturday Arts Clubs and for over 30 years has worked to bridge the gap in arts provision for young people created by increasingly limited access to creative activity in schools.

In this one, two or three day holiday club you can create an animation to show to friends and family on screen, plus finished artworks to take home with you.

Animation for ages 9-14 years takes place over two days, so please book for both Tuesday and Wednesday.

The painting day on Thursday is for those aged 11-16 yrs, due to technical difficulty. On Thursday, younger attendees (ages 9-11) will draw, build and sculpt figures/creatures, see descriptions below:

  • Tuesday - Animation, day 1. In a small group you will build a set and make a character each to use in your animation. You will then storyboard your animation and begin the stop motion animation process.

  • Wednesday - Animation, day 2. In your group you will complete the still frames of your animation (if it is not finished already) for uploading to the computer. You will then edit the animation using a professional editing programme, and if you have time add sound and credits.

  • Thursday - (9 to 11 years, primary school). Sculpting using clay or mod roc, you will create a human or animal figure. With guidance from your tutor you will explore drawing figures and the different parts that make them up, making a puppet-like moving figure from card. In the afternoon you will sculpt/build a human/animal or character.

  • Thursday - (11-16 years, secondary school). Have you always wanted to create a professional looking painting but don't know how? Then this workshop is for you. Bring in a photograph of the people/person/pet you would like to paint and your tutor will guide you through the rest. Introducing the grid technique, your tutor Holly will guide you through your base drawing in the morning, in the afternoon you will add paint to create a finished masterpiece to take home.

No previous experience or skill level is required, the emphasis will be on trying a new technique and helping you to create fantastic outcomes. All materials are provided on each day.

Age range is 9-14yrs so some activities will have different levels of difficulty to engage all levels of experience. You will be placed into age related groups so that you can sit at a table or studio area with others your own age. If you are attending with a friend or sibling who is a different age, please let us know.
