Workroom Create
Reconnect and strengthen your creative practice
Workroom Create is a brand-new membership scheme from Arts University Plymouth, designed especially for our alumni. After a successful pilot, we’re excited to officially launch Workroom Create, offering graduates the chance to return to campus and access specialist facilities on a paid basis.
<p dir="ltr">Whether you’re continuing your creative journey, developing your personal practice, or you simply want more time to be able to access our award winning resources, Workroom Create makes it easier to stay connected to the university’s facilities and community.<br /></p>
<p>Workroom Create gives alumni access to a range of Arts University Plymouth’s outstanding facilities in:<br /></p><ul><li>Ceramics</li><li>Glass</li><li>Textiles</li><li>Fashion</li><li>Wood</li><li>Media</li><li>Traditional Print</li></ul>
<p>As a member, you will be able to book access to these areas and secure your place working alongside our student community.</p>

<p>Alumni can access facilities on:</p><ul><li dir="ltr"><p dir="ltr"><strong>Wednesdays</strong>: 10am–12:30pm and 1:30pm–4:30pm<br /></p></li><li dir="ltr"><p dir="ltr"><strong>Fridays</strong>: 1:30pm–4:30pm</p></li></ul>
<p dir="ltr">Access is available throughout the year, with the exceptions of scheduled holiday closures during Christmas and Easter, and during August when the facilities will be closed for routine maintenance and updates. Full details are provided in our Workroom Create Terms & Conditions.</p><ul><li dir="ltr"><p dir="ltr"><strong>Booking</strong>: All sessions must be booked in advance via SmartHub. Workroom Create bookings open <strong>14 days in advance.</strong><br /></p></li><li dir="ltr"><p dir="ltr"><strong>Fees</strong>: A fee of £35 a month (£420 annually) or you can pay an annual fee of £325 (saving £95), applies for access, covering the use of specialist equipment and the administration of the scheme. <p dir="ltr">This model has been carefully developed with input from academic, technical and timetabling teams to ensure it supports our creative community, as well as enabling our alumni and students the opportunity to cross collaborate and inspire one another.<br /></p>

Each applicant will be assessed on their ability to work safely in the space and adhere to the scheme’s terms and conditions.</p></li></ul>
<p>Available from September 2025. Membership access is for 10 months within a 12-month cycle. This allows for planned closures during August (maintenance closure), the Christmas holiday period and the Easter holiday period.</p>

<p dir="ltr">Depending on your previous inductions and technical competency. Access is granted at the discretion of Studio Coordinators based on safety and training requirements.<br /></p>

<p dir="ltr">Your application will be checked and assessed by a member of staff at Arts University Plymouth. Application does not guarantee a place on the scheme. You will be contacted to confirm whether you have been accepted onto the scheme. Once you have been successful in securing a place, the Workroom Create onboarding process will begin. This will include SmartHub training, payment set up, studio inductions, reviewing the Workroom Create Terms & Conditions, and the Code of Conduct.<br /></p>
<p>Once you are confirmed as a member of the Workroom Create scheme, you will be able to book sessions to use the facilities you need to use. All sessions must be booked in advance via SmartHub. Workroom Create bookings open <strong>14 days in advance</strong>. Your SmartHub training will cover how to book, when you go through the induction process at the start of your membership.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Workroom Create is currently only open to graduates of Arts University Plymouth’s <strong>Undergraduate or Postgraduate</strong> courses.<br /></p>
<p dir="ltr">Yes. All members will receive a Health & Safety refresher induction in their chosen studio space. This session is designed to help you refamiliarise yourself with the environment, equipment, and expectations. It's also a great opportunity to ask questions and speak directly with the Studio Coordinator.</p>
<p dir="ltr">If you don’t use the programme for 12 months, or if there is significant changes to the space or equipment, you may be required to attend another induction before resuming access.<br /></p>
<p dir="ltr">Staff are on-site to manage safety and oversee facilities, but they are not available to assist with your projects or provide individual tuition.<br /></p>
<p>There is no pause function for membership. If you cancel, you’ll need to reapply and rejoin subject to availability and induction requirements.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Workroom Create has been designed to support the ongoing creative and professional development of our alumni. As a member of this community, you are expected to use the facilities independently, safely, and respectfully, maintaining a professional standard that reflects your training and experience.</p>
<p dir="ltr">This is a shared space, and your conduct should contribute positively to the University environment. Members must adhere to all health and safety protocols, treat staff and students with respect, and follow the Code of Conduct at all times. Access is a privilege and may be withdrawn if expectations are not met.<br /></p>
<p>While on campus, lockers can be available for holding any personal possessions while on site. These lockers are situated in Charles Cross link near our Material Lab at the south side of campus. Storage in studios is limited and not guaranteed. Members are expected to take all personal items home after each session unless specific arrangements are made with a Studio Coordinator.</p>
<p>No. Access is strictly limited to registered members. Guests, friends, or collaborators are not permitted in the studios during booked sessions.</p>
<p>Workroom Create gives you access to booked studio spaces. Use of other university facilities is not included, but you’re welcome to visit public areas like The Refectory during your sessions.</p>
<p>If you require support to access the spaces safely please note this on your application form.</p>
<p>Annual members will renew at the end of the membership term. Monthly members will enter a rolling contract so no monthly renewal is needed. Continuation is subject to approval and facility availability.</p>
<p dir="ltr">No, Workroom Create membership does not include access to student discounts or software licenses.<br /></p>
<p dir="ltr">No formal certificate is provided, but we’re happy to confirm participation in writing if needed for CVs, grant applications, or funding bodies.<br /></p>
<p dir="ltr">Any inappropriate behaviour or unsafe use of equipment may result in immediate termination of your membership, with no refund provided.<br /></p>
<p>Areas that are not available as part of the Workroom Create membership include hot glass, metals, our computer suites, the Library, and ERC loans (overnight and off-site loans are prohibited, however on-site loans during Workroom Create hours can be facilitated by negotiation with the relevant Studio Coordinator).</p>
