In conversation: Lisa Reihana and Dr James Fox

<p>Arts University Plymouth is pleased to partner with The Box Plymouth for <em>In conversation: Lisa Reihana and Dr James Fox</em>, a special public talk on <strong>Thursday 14 May 2026</strong>. Bringing together New Zealand-based artist <strong>Lisa Reihana</strong> and <strong>Dr James Fox</strong>, Honorary Fellow of Arts University Plymouth, the event will explore themes in their work and in <em>Journeys with Mai</em>, The Box’s major exhibition. </p><h2>About Lisa Reihana</h2> <p>Born in 1964 in Aotearoa, New Zealand, Lisa Reihana is a multi-disciplinary artist whose practice spans film, sculpture, text, photography, costume and body adornment. Her work explores how ideas of place, community, identity and history are represented. Her monumental video work <em>In Pursuit of Venus (infected)</em>, featured in <em>Journeys with Mai</em>, challenges Western historical and contemporary stereotypes and foregrounds the complexities of cultural identity and colonisation. </p> <p>Since the 1990s, Reihana has played an influential role in the development of decolonial practice and contemporary Māori art in Aotearoa, New Zealand, earning an international reputation as an artist, producer and cultural advocate. </p><h2>About Dr James Fox</h2> <p>Dr James Fox is an art historian, curator, presenter and BAFTA-nominated broadcaster. He specialises in modern art, British art and the cultural history of colour, and is currently Director of Studies in History of Art at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, Director of Education at the Jeffrey Rubinoff Sculpture Park in Canada, and President of the Friends of the Stanley Spencer Gallery. </p> <p>Arts University Plymouth awarded Dr James Fox an Honorary Fellowship in 2024 in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the study of Art and Cultural History. </p><h2>Booking information</h2> <p>This talk is part of a series of events arranged in partnership with Arts University Plymouth.
