BA (Hons) Fine Art alumni Charlie Wildy has just completed a five month joint residency at KARST with her resulting work set to feature in The Karst Graduate Residency Show on Friday 30 January, alongside fellow artist Rosie King.

The residency is part of a yearly graduate scheme at KARST – aiming to support the transition of Plymouth students from study to professional practice – with support from Plymouth College of Art.

“The KARST residency has been great, having the time and space to work on projects is amazing.

“Having the freedom to work outside of the formal setting of a learning environment is challenging, but a very real indicator of how artists work and create alongside each other,” says Charlie.

In February, Charlie will be moving into Maker Heights studios on The Rame Peninsula in Cornwall as a result of support from the college's alumni network – to begin a brand new residency set up by the college and artists at Maker Heights.

“Moving on from Karst will be hard as I have made some great friends, and have very much enjoyed my time there.

“But I’m very much looking forward to moving on to Maker Heights Studios and working in a new, fresh environment away from the city, and getting to know whole new set of creative people,” explains Charlie.

She has also kicked off the start of the “Talking Heads” event at local community pub, Bread and Roses.

It is a regular informal meeting, offering like minded people a platform to discuss art, share ideas and get to know people in the artist community. Charlie led a discussion on the possibilities of displaying art work in and out of the gallery context.

Talking Heads is held on the first Tuesday and third Tuesday of every month 5:45pm at The Bread and Roses, Plymouth.
