BA (Hons) Film & Screen Arts* graduate selected for screening at Cornwall Film Festival
Kieran Lyons, recent graduate of BA (Hons) Film & Screen Arts* at Plymouth College of Art, has been selected for this year’s Cornwall Film Festival. His documentary feature ‘Of Kernow’ will be showcased as part of the regional programme at The Poly, Falmouth, on the 15 and 16 of November.
Throughout November 2019, Cornwall Film Festival plays host to a curated programme of film events, celebrating excellence in film making, international festival winners and the best of British talent. Cornwall Film Festival is the only major film event in the county and draws international crowds to it’s unique showcase. In fact, in the last three years over 20,000 people have visited the flagship festival or attended an off-shoot public events programme.
Graduate film ‘Of Kernow’ by Kieran Lyons, will be screened amongst the best entries from the festival’s Regional Short’s competition, airing at 10.00am on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 November. Fellow entrants include first-time writer-director and seasoned festival contributors alike, from sci-fi and horror to documentary, animation, experimental and comedy, this year’s shorts are an unmissable highlight in the event’s impressive schedule.
‘Of Kernow’ spotlights the double lives of three surfers in the South West of England, as they search for balance in their relationship with the sea and their responsibilities as full-time workers. Kieran’s cinematography captures the rugged beauty of Cornwall’s coastlines, alongside the mundanity of day-to-day life in local manufacturing. From nostalgic relationships with the seaside as a child through to adult escapism - each interview shares a personal perspective on surfing’s enduring value to coastal communities.
Cornwall Film Festival was established in 2002 by a group of filmmakers to advance the education of the public in the art of cinematography, filmmaking and other forms of moving images including films in the Cornish language.
