Botanicals & still life: Students inspired by designer Kit Miles workshop
Students on our BA (Hons) Printed Textile Design & Surface Pattern programme were left inspired following a still life workshop with renowned designer Kit Miles.
After completing his MA in Textile Design at the Royal College of Art, Kit Miles formed his own studio, steeped in the values of quality, exquisite draughtsmanship and a futuristic, often surprising use of scale colour and imagery.
The studio quickly gained international press attention from the likes of World of Interiors, the Financial Times and Elle Decor Italia, all hailing Miles’ aptitude for designing striking and original fabrics and wallpapers as ‘vivid’ and ‘ground-breaking’.
The workshop was organised for our third-year students, kickstarting the important aspect of drawing for their final module. Our second-year students also had the chance to take part for the visual research of their personal project.
Second-year student Ellie O’Rourke said: “Kit gave me the confidence to draw in many different ways, he is extremely passionate and helped me appreciate the many possibilities within a still life.”
Ranging from exotic fruit to butterflies and maps, all the students set up their own still life which were used as a stimulus for their projects.
