Niamh Collins, who was awarded a Distinction, reimagines weaving by juxtaposing the delicate and intricate aesthetics inherent in the craft with raw, intense themes of abjection, restraint, and corporeal inspiration.

Niamh delves deep into the historical and cultural contexts of weaving, transforming it into a medium that challenges conventional perceptions. ‘Ensnare’ uses woven materials to evoke a sense of entrapment, creating a powerful dialogue between the softness of the craft and the stark realities it aims to convey.

By drawing from physical inspiration and the concept of abjection, the work blurs the lines between beauty and discomfort, inviting viewers to confront their own notions of confinement and freedom. The result is a compelling visual narrative that reflects both the strength and fragility of the human condition through the art of weaving.
