Fine Art graduate named as Crafts Council 'One to Watch'

Arts University Plymouth BA (Hons) Fine Art graduate Dezeta Fantie has been named one of Crafts Council’s ‘Graduates to Watch’ for 2024, cementing their status as a rising star in the world of contemporary craft and design.
<p dir="ltr"><a href="https://www.instagram.com/dezzartzz/">Dezeta Fantie</a>, a Black British Caribbean <a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/courses/undergraduate/ba-hons-fine-art">BA (Hons) Fine Art</a> graduate of Arts University Plymouth, caught the attention of industry leaders with her exceptional project <a href="https://www.instagram.com/dezzartzz/p/DCt7NyLo3KP/?img_index=4">Braiding the Black Atlantic</a>. Dezeta’s work blends the personal and historical, weaving together her research into the history of black hair, African American quilt making, and bio mythical fiction. </p> <p dir="ltr">Included by the national Crafts Council in their list of <a href="https://www.craftscouncil.org.uk/stories/schools-out-craft-graduates-to-watch-in-2024">Crafts Graduates To Watch In 2024</a>, Dezeta was chosen as one of only 12 graduates from universities all across the UK.</p> <p dir="ltr">This isn’t the first time Dezeta has been recognised for her talent. Earlier this year, she was featured in Arts University Plymouth’s <a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/posts/ones-to-watch-from-arts-university-plymouths-graduate-shows-2024">Ones to Watch</a> spotlight, which celebrated standout graduates from the 2024 Graduate Shows. Her work used a mixture of textiles, collage and text and focused on different methods of storytelling and ways to memorialise the lives of black women, present, past and imagined as her area of research.</p>
