Fashion students snap-up top quality materials in industry visit
GH Leathers visited the fashion studio recently giving the students the opportunity to purchase top quality materials at less than trade price.
They are one of the biggest suppliers of leather in the UK and ethically source all of their products.
“We’re making sure that our students get really good opportunities to access great quality fabrics and materials – and at cheaper prices than students in London would have access to,” says Ali Braybrook, BA (Hons) Fashion programme leader.
The company sell to fashion and design brands such as Topshop, Freed of London; television, film, theatre and costume production companies – and occasionally celebrities…with Kanye West being their most recent visitor to their offices.
Jonathan Davy from GH Leathers talked to the students about sourcing materials and the difference in leathers whilst showing them the materials he had brought with him.
Jonathan explains, “Everything we sell is a bi-product, so it’s all ethically sourced and we don’t have any minimum orders.
“We sell to big designers like Matthew Williamson at the same price as we sell to students – so it’s great experience in understanding pricing and costs as a fashion designer and maker.
“It’s really good to visit Plymouth College of Art. There’s been lots of interest and lots of sales and hopefully we’ve taught a few people as well.
“The students have been great, I’ve only been here twice but I have to say it’s one of my favourites to visit and sell at. The students are always really interested and ask lots of questions which is always a good thing.”
