Film lecturer Kaz Rahman discusses his work on global news channel TRT World
The solo exhibition in Istanbul is a culmination of his time spent in different cities over the last several years that relates both directly and indirectly to his films. Lines carved into wood and overlaying translucently painted images alongside an interplay of dimensions provides a new approach to depth perspective in this recent work (2007-17).
TRT World is a 24hr global news channel broadcasting in 190 countries providing up-to-date news and current affairs, including a daily arts and culture show focusing on the global culture scene in which Kaz featured.
As a multifaceted artist, Kaz has directed the feature films ‘Salaat’ and ‘Deccani Souls’ and has had several solo exhibitions including ‘Flood in the Sky’ (photography), ‘Magic Carpet’ (painting) and ‘Deccani Ark’ (painting).
His work has screened or exhibited at venues such as Anthology Film Archives in New York City, National Film Board of Canada in Toronto, Salar Jung Museum in Hyderabad, India Habitat Centre in Delhi, Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh and The San Jose Museum of Art in California.
Kaz's style explores the intersection between Islamic artistic expression, the natural elements and contemporary culture. He holds an MFA in Media Arts (writing/directing) from City College (CUNY) New York City and has taught at universities and colleges in Hyderabad, Pittsburgh and Istanbul.
