Film lecturer Kaz Rahman discusses his work on global news channel TRT World

Kaz Rahman, artist, filmmaker and lecturer on our BA (Hons) Film programme, has recently featured on TRT World, the 24hr global news channel, discussing his work ‘Cinematic Landscapes’.

<p>The solo exhibition in Istanbul is a culmination of his time spent in different cities over the last several years that relates both directly and indirectly to his films. Lines carved into wood and overlaying translucently painted images alongside an interplay of dimensions provides a new approach to depth perspective in this recent work (2007-17).</p> <p>TRT World is a 24hr global news channel broadcasting in 190 countries providing up-to-date news and current affairs, including a daily arts and culture show focusing on the global culture scene in which Kaz featured.</p> <p>As a multifaceted artist, Kaz has directed the feature films <strong>‘Salaat’</strong> and <strong>‘Deccani Souls’</strong> and has had several solo exhibitions including <strong>‘Flood in the Sky’</strong> (photography), <strong>‘Magic Carpet’</strong> (painting) and <strong>‘Deccani Ark’</strong> (painting).<br /></p>
“In Milk Landscape I was exploring ideas of early animation, drawing on cells, having multiple layers, so there’s a three-dimensionality to it which is quite cinematic.”

<p>His work has screened or exhibited at venues such as <strong>Anthology Film Archives</strong> in New York City, <strong>National Film Board of Canada</strong> in Toronto, <strong>Salar Jung Museum</strong> in Hyderabad, <strong>India Habitat Centre </strong>in Delhi, <strong>Andy Warhol Museum </strong>in Pittsburgh and <strong>The San Jose Museum of Art</strong> in California.</p> <p>Kaz's style explores the intersection between Islamic artistic expression, the natural elements and contemporary culture. He holds an MFA in Media Arts (writing/directing) from City College (CUNY) New York City and has taught at universities and colleges in Hyderabad, Pittsburgh and Istanbul.</p>
