Foundation student joins prestigious BFI Film Academy
Foundation Diploma in Art & Design student Natasha Beddoe, who specialises in visual communication, recently attended a six-day BFI Film Academy hands-on filmmaking course providing industry-standard film training through a combination of workshops, practical skills lessons and lectures.
As well as participating in masterclasses by key film-industry figures, Natasha also received bespoke careers advice tailored towards working in the film industry. As a graduate of the BFI Film Academy Natasha now qualifies as part of the prestigious institution’s alumni network and can access upcoming BFI events such as their BAFTA career surgeries.
“We spent the week making a short film in our small groups,” Natasha said. “Each person was responsible for a particular area of the film - my area was lighting and camera, where I learnt how to use the same equipment used in mainstream films. It was really practical and by going through each stage of the process of filmmaking I was able to see how visual effects, which I plan to study next year, fit into the bigger filmmaking process.”
