<p>The <strong><a href="https://www.facebook.com/jeremiahsjourneyplymouth">Jeremiah’s Journey Plymouth Photomarathon</a></strong> is a photography competition with a twist that will encourage participants to see the city through their viewfinder as they are given six hours to take six images on six chosen topics. Creativity is key, as these topics are kept secret until the day.</p> <p>Entries will be judged by experts from across the city, with all photos from each entrant being exhibited at Plymouth College of Art for two weeks in October. There will also be a prize-giving ceremony, with prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each age category: 11 yrs &amp; Under, 12-17 yrs and 18+.</p>

<p>The first 100 entrants will also receive a Dayrider voucher kindly donated by Citybus, to aid them in exploring the city during the event. <a href="https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/plymouths-photomarathon-tickets-34686505271">Participants are encouraged to register their entry in advance</a>, but they can also register on the day at Palace Court, Buckwell Street, Plymouth, from 9:30am until 10:25am. A briefing for participants will then take place, and the Photomarathon will start at 10.30am.</p> <p>Jeremiah's Journey is a registered charity that offers support to children and their families who have experienced or are anticipating the death of a parent or carer. The charity supports over 200 children each year from Plymouth and the surrounding area. In 2017, the majority of children coming to the charity experienced the death of a parent, and were bereaved through sudden and often traumatic circumstances. This bereavement group has recently been renamed by the children to ‘Jeremiah’s Friends’.</p>

<p>Plymouth College of Art has worked in partnership with Jeremiah’s Journey since 2011, hosting fortnightly sessions at the college with the charity's Stepping Stones group, who provide support for children who have a terminally ill parent.</p> <p>Cindy Willcocks, Project Consultant for Jeremiah’s Journey said, “Jeremiah’s Journey is successfully working in partnership with a number of organisations to ensure that children, young people and their families receive the support they need at the time they require it. The Photomarathon has been a successful event for the last four years, which has been kindly supported by Plymouth College of Art, My Photo, Plympton Photoshop and Tesco.”</p> <p>In working with Jeremiah’s Journey, Plymouth College of Art also provides a safe space to talk about difficult life experiences. Staff and students donate their time to provide fun and creative activities for the children across many different areas of the college, from making ceramic Christmas decorations to creating stop motion animation.</p> <p>Engagement in arts and creativity has been proven to be a powerful way to help young people open up, explore their grief and socialise with others in a similar situation to themselves.</p>
