Graphic Design student Emily Grabham - Designing for impact
Friday, 7 February, 2025 — BA (Hons) Graphic Design student Emily Grabham is supporting Trevi by designing impactful placards for the 2025 Reclaim the Night march—an event that amplifies voices against violence towards women and girls.
<p dir="ltr">BA (Hons) Graphic Design student <a href="https://www.instagram.com/emily.grabham.designs/">Emily Grabham</a> is using her creative skills to support a cause close to her heart. As part of Arts University Plymouth’s partnership with Trevi, Emily designed impactful placards for the 2025 Reclaim the Night march—an event that amplifies voices against violence towards women and girls.</p>
<p dir="ltr">We spoke to Emily about her inspiration, design process, and what it means to create work that drives change.<br /></p>

<h3>How did you get involved with Reclaim the Night?</h3>
<p dir="ltr">Last year I signed up for the project through my course team and made the ‘A Dress Is Not A Yes!’ placard. This year I signed up again because I wanted to explore the project further. I wanted to support Trevi and the march because this is an issue that affects many people across Plymouth and beyond, including myself and my peers.</p><h3><strong>How has your coursework at Arts University Plymouth influenced your designs for Trevi?</strong></h3>
<p dir="ltr">A knowledge of screen printing and the process made designing the placards a little easier. I knew to avoid really thin lines or small details that might not come out as well. Working with a charity to make the placards, presenting my ideas, and accommodating any adjustments also gave me a lot of experience and project management skills that I’ll definitely use again.</p><h3><strong>What’s been the most interesting thing you’ve learned while studying graphic design?</strong></h3>
<p dir="ltr">The theory behind graphic design is really interesting, and the ‘rules’ you can either stick to or break within design. I also really like seeing the difference in style and process that everyone has, even within the classroom. You find new ways of doing things you may not have thought of on your own, which has led me to improve my work and try new things more than I would have on my own.<br /></p>

<p dir="ltr">Emily first contributed to Trevi’s Reclaim the Night project during the first year of her BA (Hons) Graphic Design degree and has continued to develop her skills and creative voice in her second year. <p dir="ltr">Arts University Plymouth is proud to partner with Trevi for the Reclaim the Night march, taking place on <strong>Friday, 7 February 2025</strong>, starting from our <strong>Tavistock Place campus</strong> at <strong>6:15pm</strong>. Before the march, join us for a <strong>free placard-making workshop</strong> from <strong>4pm</strong>, featuring screen-printing sessions with designs created by Emily.</p>
