Plymouth College of Art Graduate School is home to an active, cross-disciplinary community of makers and thinkers, whose work emerges from a dialogue between art, craft and design disciplines, informed by the core values of the college – the purposeful exploration of the relationship between creative learning and social justice. The private view event offered guests the opportunity to view the works alongside the artists, as well as being treated to speeches from Vice Principal Christy Johnson and newly appointed Academic Dean, Paul Fieldsend-Danks.

The show includes the piece Presence in Absence, from artist Paul Hillon, which is a large sculptural form that explores the interaction between viewer, spatial dimensions and fortified structures. Hillon's research interrogates examples of current arts practice that engage with sculpture, installation and intervention, but specifically where the use of space is a key factor of the work.

Also featuring the work of visual artist and educator Milly Brown, whose work with paper, collage and publishing formats explores the ideas of objectivity, value and editing. Congregation is an occasional, limited edition publication focusing on site-specific art and presented as a collection of signed artists' editions and essays.

The exhibition is taking place in the dedicated studios and research spaces of the college’s Graduate School, which is open to the public from 20 to 29 September 2018 from 9am to 5pm weekdays and 10am to 2pm Saturdays, with a late opening Friday 28 September as part of Plymouth Art Weekender.

The MA Show 2018 features work from graduates across the college’s MA programmes, including MA Disruptive Design; MA Fine Art; MA Painting; MA Drawing; MA Printmaking; MA Illustration; MA Photography; MA Ceramics; MA Jewellery; MA Textile Design; MA Visual Communication; and MA Entrepreneurship for Creative Practice.

The college’s dynamic postgraduate delivery offers critical and technical expertise in a range of disciplines. MA students at Plymouth College of Art are proactive researchers into practice, transformative and agenda-changing professionals who contribute to the future of the creative and cultural industries, studying across a spectrum of Masters programmes including the MA Creative Education: Making Learning, which is a platform for experimental approaches to creative pedagogy.
