BA Graphic Communication students welcome London agency BrandOpus

Emily Myers, designer from London brand agency BrandOpus delivered the Chrysalis Student Awards brief to our Graphic Communication students

BA (Hons) Graphic Communication students were visited by Emily Myers, designer for BrandOpus, to deliver an industry competition brief.

The brief, part of the Chrysalis Student awards competition, has asked the students to create a branded drink that has a benefit beyond its primary purpose of refreshment in a bid to win first prize of £2,000.

The concept encourages students to focus on current trends, highlighting research that suggests modern consumers are looking for drink products offering benefits in addition to taste and refreshment.

The brief states: “BrandOpus recognises that users are seeking for more control in a world of constant change, and this attention is being seen to be turned inward, to aspects of life the consumer has more control over, such as their brains and bodies. With this in mind, students need to think outside the box, how can their product help the customer ‘achieve their optimal self’?”

Brand Opus 3

BrandOpus created the Chrysalis Student Awards to give students the opportunity to work on a project emulating a live brief. After reviewing the entries, the agency will then select a panel of finalists who will receive a consultation session and feedback on their concept from BrandOpus designers, with finalists going head to head for the £2,000 first prize. In addition to the cash prize, the winner and runner ups get a chance to work in a month-long internship with the brand agency in their London office over the summer of 2020. All finalists will present their work at the BrandOpus London studio in May 2020.

"Real-time briefs like this, allow students to explore the technical and practical skills they’ve learnt at the college to create the kind of work they might be called upon to deliver in their professional careers."

The Chrysalis Student Awards competition is a huge opportunity to network within the industry and potentially gain experience working with the company as an intern.
