Lord Lieutenant of Devon Visits New Contemporary Crafts Centre
<p><strong>The Lord Lieutenant of Devon, Sir Eric Dancer, visited the college yesterday for lunch and a tour of the new contemporary crafts centre with former colleague Principal Andrew Brewerton.</strong></p>
<p>Sir Eric Dancer and Principal Andrew Brewerton worked together at Dartington Crystal, during which time the organisation recieved international recognition for innovation in business and contemporary crafts.</p>
<p>During his visit to the college Sir Eric visited the new Painting, Drawing & Printmaking studio, Ceramics workshops and Glass area, where he watched students glassblowing.<br /></p>
<p>Notably impressed by the quality of resources, Sir Eric said that it was great for the public to be able to see students and staff working through the street-level windows.</p>
<p>Sir Eric has had a long and rich career in business and industry spanning over 30 years. He was the founding Chairman of Devon and Cornwall Training and Enterprise Council, the Training and Enterprise National Council, and the West Country Development Corporation. He has advised the Secretary of State for Employment and been a Member of the National Training Task Force, the Councils of the CBI and Royal Society of Arts and a Governor of the University of Plymouth.</p>
<p>He was awarded a CBE in 1991 for outstanding services to business and training, and appointed Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (KCVO) in the 2013 Birthday Honours for his work as Lord-Lieutenant of Devon.</p>
