Plymouth College of Art Principal Andrew Brewerton will speak at the inaugural TEDx conference in Bath on 29 September.

TED began in 1984 as a conference where technology, entertainment and design converged, and today TED talks covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a programme called TEDx. Independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities all over the world.

TEDxBath recently announced details of the city's inaugural TEDx conference, titled ‘Light up the Future’, which has been coordinated by a diverse team of local volunteers united by a desire to share ideas and encourage positive change.

The event will include twelve inspiring talks from leading speakers on a broad range of topics including social welfare, mobility, mental health, and the role and character of Bath as a city, including a talk from our Principal, Professor Andrew Brewerton.

Creative learning and social justice have long provided a primary focus of Andrew Brewerton’s work in art education, which currently extends to the creation of a new kind of art university here at Plymouth College of Art, the founding of Plymouth School of Creative Arts and development of The Red House, and transformational work with Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts as an Advisory Board member of the Shanghai International Art City project.

Inspired by the TEDxBath theme of ‘lighting-up the future’, his first instinct was to take a walk on the dark side - so make sure you tune in from 1.15pm on Saturday 29 September 2018 to hear the full talk.

Andrew will present alongside 11 other inspirational speakers, including Penny Hay, Director of Research at 5x5x5=creativity and Senior Lecturer in Arts Education at Bath Spa University, giving a talk titled The Power of Children's Imagination; Joy Nazzari, the Founding Director of dn&co, a brand consultancy inspired by culture and place - speaking about the power in cities and using purpose to drive change, and Jake Curtis, Director of Programmes and Operations at Jamie’s Farm, who will examine how farming can help young people define new paths.

Tickets for the event are now sold out, however you can tune in to our live stream of the talks from 1.15pm - 5pm here on our website.
