Tate Exchange is an ambitious ‘open experiment’ which enables associate organisations and members of the public to devise and develop creative learning through participation at Tate, through events and projects using art experience as a way of addressing questions about the wider world.

Recently we've invested £10m in new world-class Craft, Design and Fabrication Workshops which were formally opened by Sir John Sorrell in 2014.

"We think of Tate as a home-from-home: a cultural horizon for our community and a natural destination for artists."

We also founded the Plymouth School of Creative Arts in 2013, and its award-winning landmark building The Red House was formally opened by Tate Director Sir Nicholas Serota who hailed it as "a historic event in the history of education in this country".

This month saw us open our new pre-degree campus Palace Court, marking the latest stage in the progressive continuum of creative learning and practice here at the college, from age three to Masters level study.

Professor Andrew Brewerton, Principal of Plymouth College of Art, said of our new partnership:

"Tate Exchange is an important partnership for our community and a new departure for creative learning in the UK. Most of all it’s a making project and a making space for community groups, individuals, and organisations."

"We think of Tate as a home-from-home: a cultural horizon for our community and a natural destination for artists from Plymouth College of Art and Plymouth School of Creative Arts."

"We hope that our friends at Tate feel equally at home here at the edge of things - at the college and at The Red House, in the heart of Plymouth - where we’re creating a crucible for creative learning and innovation."

"We look forward to working in Tate Exchange to engage with new audiences and broaden the horizon for artists and makers in the South West."
