Raiders teams take to the court in fashion students new designs

Budding fashion designer Jade Rogers has seen her latest designs come to life on the basketball court, after she was chosen as the winner of Plymouth Raiders Development’s competition to design their new kits.

<p>During her studies on the <a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/courses/undergraduate/ba-hons-fashion-design">BA (Hons) Fashion</a> programme, Jade Rogers worked on producing a series of fresh new styles for <a href="https://www.plymouthraiders.com/development/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Plymouth Raiders Development</a> teams following their announcement of a competition on social media.</p>

<p>Supported by the college’s in-house Agency, which facilitates direct industry experience and prepares students for a higher level of creative employment, she produced mood boards and kit designs to compliment the team’s exciting new rebrand.</p> <p>Student Jade Rogers said, “Having my design chosen for the new kit is a fantastic experience for me; studying fashion has given me a wide range of knowledge and skills within the fashion process, covering areas such as design and concept, producing detailed technical packs, and sampling and garment construction.</p>
“Taking part in this competition allowed me to utilise those skills I have learnt during my time so far at the Plymouth College of Art and apply them to a real-world experience.”

<p>Plymouth Raiders Development team offer coaching and playing opportunities for children from the age of seven to seventeen. Suitable for all playing abilities, the development team offers an introduction to the sport and the opportunity to begin playing in a competitive environment with qualified coaches and support from the premier league Plymouth Raiders players.</p> <p>Coaches and Team Managers from Plymouth Raiders reviewed all the competition submissions before narrowing it down to just three finalists. Jade’s design then won by a majority of votes, and was put into production using a local kit manufacturer.<br /></p>

<p>Development team Vice Chairman Phil Hughes said, “Our new logo and kits mark the start of a new campaign to raise awareness of the team in and around Plymouth. We’re at the forefront of what we do and it’s fantastic to work with so many enthusiastic young people from across the city.<br /><br />“I like to think the new kits will improve confidence in the teams, and that wearing the uniform will reinforce our team spirit. Basketball is truly a team sport and the unity that comes from feeling part of a team is so important.”<br /></p>
