Wednesday 01 April 2020

Essential reading for current undergraduate and postgraduate students at Plymouth College of Art.

Following discussion amongst our Senior Leadership Team, your feedback and based on the input of your Students’ Union, we are pleased to share more detail on the additional flexibility the college is able to offer students in relation to coursework and deadlines at this time.

Your wellbeing at this time is our top priority and we appreciate that individual circumstances and caring responsibilities will vary enormously between individuals.
Extenuating Circumstances

We are pleased to announce deadline extensions for all coursework submission, with blanket Extenuating Circumstances for all students (you do not need to submit a claim). Please see below for information about specific deadlines for every module.

Deadline Extensions

Please click here to view revised module deadlines for all undergraduate and postgraduate students. We believe these extensions offer students a revised structure which is achievable but it’s very important that those with additional Extenuating Circumstances talk to us as soon as possible so that we can support your individual successful progression in the best way possible. Please email registry@pca.ac.uk to discuss any concerns in more detail.

Learning & Assessment

Over the Easter break, your tutors and Heads of School will be working to carefully map existing module learning outcomes to a revised approach to online deliverables within each module, in recognition of suspended access to the studios and workshops from March 20th 2020. For some modules, this variance will be negligible. For others, such as practical modules, we will be providing clear guidance on alternative approaches to the submission of material for online assessment that allows you to convey your understanding and knowledge of your subject. We are paying particular attention to our third year BA (Level 6) students with regard to the achievement of learning outcomes in relation to final projects.

This means that after Easter amended module guides will be launched that will acknowledge the work you have already completed and will provide an approach to completion that is achievable in the circumstances and within the extended deadlines.

We are also reviewing our academic regulations in relation to academic performance and degree classification, to ensure that no student is disadvantaged, this will take into account previous grades.

We will be publishing more detailed information about this in the week you return after Easter. Please continue to regularly check the Student Portal and your college inbox.
