The Graduate School strengthens partnership with Plymouth Arts Centre
Wednesday, 20 July, 2016 — In a move to further strengthen our partnership with Plymouth Arts Centre, postgraduate students will gain access to the centre from September onwards, and will automatically gain membership of PAC Home.

We are pleased to announce that, in a move to further strengthen our partnership with Plymouth Arts Centre, postgraduate students will gain access to the centre from September onwards, and will automatically gain membership of PAC Home, a membership network for artists, curators and writers, who live and work in Plymouth and the wider region.

Providing an outward-looking context for MA studies

Starting this September, all new Masters students will be taught one core day of interdisciplinary delivery each week at Plymouth Arts Centre, enhancing our commitment to offering an outward-looking context to their studies that places them in the heart of Plymouth’s professional artistic communities.

Full-time MA students will also be offered dedicated spaces within their own programme areas at the college where appropriate, taking into account the different requirements and studio culture of each discipline, with flexible space available for part-time students*.

We have made these changes in response to the needs of MA students who require both access to a professional, communal space to host cross-disciplinary lectures and discussions, and dedicated spaces within their specialised programme area. In practice this will mean an MA Contemporary Craft student specialising in Glass, for example, will be based primarily within Plymouth College of Art’s glass studio, making it easier to experiment and enter into dialogues with academics and other students.

PAC Home annual membership, which normally costs £60 per person annually and will now be granted automatically to postgraduate students, is an initiative by Plymouth Arts Centre, aiming to support and foster a strong visual arts sector by developing and raising engagement in contemporary art, supporting production through critical review and connection to a professional and global network.

A hub for Plymouth’s artistic communities

All of the interdisciplinary core teaching delivery for MA students, such as lectures, talks and seminars, will now take place every week at Plymouth Arts Centre, where students will also gain access to an arts-based social space, reference library and range of networking opportunities.

Situated five minutes walk from our Tavistock Place campus and just around the corner from the inspiring historical surroundings of the Barbican waterfront, Plymouth Art Centre is a nationally-renowned centre for contemporary visual art, independent cinema and creative learning.

*Arrangements are still being finalised for part time students that began their studies in 2015-2016, who will be allocated dedicated workspaces where appropriate, as was agreed when they joined the college.
