Transcendent
On Saturday 5th October, Trerise Gallery is opening Transcendent, an exhibition featuring the work of BA (Hons) Photography students from Plymouth College of Art.
Transcendent is a collection of images by these three diverse photographers, Rebecca Brown, Hannah Cook and Tony Fitzsimmons.
Rebecca Brown’s images document the scars that open cast mining and quarries have left along with the beauty of nature trails that have reclaimed the land.
Hanna Cook explores how abstract expressionism in 20th century painting translates through the medium of photography and loosely based on the cycle of a year. ‘8766 hours’ reflects the moods and atmosphere of the seasons in an ambiguous way. Interested in cross-disciplinary work, Hanna is developing her own style that combines her enthusiasm for other genres of art.
Tony Fitzsimmons combines his three favourite passions – landscape, weather and the animal kingdom – showcasing a beautiful range of commercial imagery that highlights the power and beauty that is our natural world.
“To prepare and set up an exhibition feels crucial and we hope this will be the first of many to come” says Tony. “Plymouth College of Art tutors and technicians are always very supportive with our projects and have helped us make some of our work reality.”
The exhibition consists of work from projects previously worked on during their second year on the Photography Foundation Degree as well as the artist’s own personal work.
