It’s 2022 so let’s get started as we mean to go on, with lots of exciting events throughout the city, from exhibitions and workshops, to guided walks and Open Days. Here’s our guide of some of the best arts and culture events to see, do, and attend in our city this month.<br /></p>

<p dir="ltr">The National Museum of Australia’s award-winning exhibition comes to The Box. Experience ancient stories from the world’s oldest continuing culture, told by more than 300 paintings and objects by over 100 different artists. Take an epic journey that crosses three states, three deserts and some 500,000 square kilometres. With ceramics, paintings, sculpture, installation and film, come and immerse yourself in an exhibition that uses the power of art and culture to connect us across time zones and international borders.</p>

<p dir="ltr">This 360-degree show creates a visual environment in full symbiosis with Roman Zavada’s piano compositions and the Northern Lights. This unique experience brings the audience straight to the heart of the boreal forest above the 60th parallel. The stunning real-time images of the aurora borealis combined with the piano performance makes for an unmissable immerse experience.</p>

<p dir="ltr">Vintage, designer and other items contributed by Plymouth College of Art staff and students will be sold in aid of local charity Shekinah in the Students’ Union and Tavistock Place Reception. Items include designer items dating back to the 90s, with pieces by designers such as Alberta Ferretti, Ghost (vintage) Day Birger, Girbaud, Trippen and brands such as Toast, Crea and Lilith will be available, so snap up some great designer and vintage items at cheap prices, all for a good cause.</p>

<p dir="ltr">Join the walk at the Meadow Cafe in Central Park to learn how to identify trees in the winter. It’s not as hard as it sounds, even without their leaves on! Jess Smallcombe from Devon Biodiversity Records Centre will be sharing her knowledge during a winter walk around the park.</p>

<p dir="ltr">The Bikespace CIC sessions are a great chance for you to learn more about your bike as well as providing tools for you to repair your own bike. The sessions are aimed at people who have a little bit of knowledge already, but there will be staff available to guide you along the way.<br /></p>

<p dir="ltr">Narrated by Olivia Colman, an eccentric artist (played by Benedict Cumberbatch) introduces Victorian London to the delight of cats, in Will Sharpe’s enlightening biopic of the Victorian-era artist whose widely published drawings of anthropomorphised cats transformed them from mysterious to irresistible. In a dazzling, career-best performance, Cumberbatch plays one of Britain’s most influential eccentrics as a flurry of wild ideas and prodigious artistic output.</p>

<p dir="ltr">You will be introduced to the world of scientific and natural history illustration, with a focus on marine and coastal wildlife. This course will introduce a variety of drawing techniques and materials, as well as how and why to use illustration to help document scientific observations and show concepts and processes. Over the two day course, you will develop your own sketchbook and track your personal development.</p>
