<p dir="ltr">Race for Life is Cancer Research UK’s biggest series of fundraising events. Cancer Research UK has been raising funds and changing lives for more than a quarter of a century. At their first event in Battersea in 1994, 750 female participants raised £48,000. Since then, Race for Life has grown into a series of hundreds of events across the country, raising over £970m for life-saving treatments. Today, people of all genders and ages can join the Race for Life. <p dir="ltr">Known for showcasing some of the region’s most talented artists and makers, the Good Food &amp; Craft Market offers everything from tasty treats to handcrafted gifts. The monthly markets have been a staple of Royal William Yard’s event calendar for years and has won awards along the way. The Extended Diploma Graduate Show 2024 will showcase work from our ambitious Pre-Degree students

<p dir="ltr">Our Extended Diploma courses are specialist post-16 study programmes that offer ambitious creatives a dedicated sixth form campus to develop their unique perspective, meet like minded people and gain the sought-after skills necessary to progress onto degree-level study or industry. <p dir="ltr">In association with Real Ideas, Plymouth will be celebrated in art at this exhibition and sale of work at Ocean Studios. View scenes of Plymouth in a diverse range of art styles and mediums, created by talented local artists. All work will be on sale, so this is also an amazing opportunity to buy unique paintings of local scenes. Costume students explore Student Wellbeing Advisor Ethan Pennell's Dartmoor Folklore

<p dir="ltr">The BA (Hons) Costume Production first year students invite you to embark on a journey through Dartmoor Folklore by stepping into Ethan Pennell’s map of ghostly tales and shapeshifting witches. The first show starts at 5pm and takes approximately 30 minutes as you move from one story to the next, witnessing ghoulish apparitions of Dartmoor up close, brought to life in newly-created costumes.You can arrive at any time between 5pm and 7pm, when the last performance starts. </p> <p dir="ltr"><a href="https://www.facebook.com/events/953304719774169/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">4 June - 5pm to 7:30pm @ AUP:SU</a><br /></p>
<p dir="ltr">Maverick soulmates Ged and Dave are on a mission through the winding lanes and hidden tracks of North Devon to record their lives and experiences of people living without mains electricity. Filming Where is Heaven? over ten years, they captured not only the beauty of this often harsh environment but also the spirit of the wonderful off-grid characters who inhabit it. A diverse collection of people whose stories at first appear meandering tributaries, but quickly swell to become an intricate weave of philosophies and vibrant wit, uniting around the common search for happiness.</p> <p dir="ltr"><a href="https://plymouthartscinema.org/whats-on/where-is-heaven/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">6 to 8 June @ Plymouth Arts Cinema</a><br /></p>
<p dir="ltr">Come to the Students’ Union for a low-pressure Study Social event. They’ll be sticking a film on for those of you who just want to relax for a while, and for those of you who prefer a bit of background noise while you get on with your work. This is a regular event so please feel free to suggest films to the SU Team. <p dir="ltr">National Brick Events is a dedicated LEGO event for every LEGO fan. Expect stalls selling rare and long retired LEGO sets, the latest releases, dedicated minifigure stalls where you can pick up that missing figure and lots more for you to view and purchase. Activities for children include a LEGO play area where you can sit and play with hundreds and hundreds of LEGO bricks. Join alumni Minski and Goraka for a creative evening of fashion and textiles

<p dir="ltr">Join in a vibrant and creative evening of fashion and textiles with local fashionistas <a href="https://minski.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Minski</a> and <a href="https://www.instagram.com/go.ra.ka/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Goraka</a>. Minski, an independent UK-based slow fashion collective, is on a mission to create sustainable and funky clothing using a variety of handcrafting techniques. Nina Westwood, Arts University Plymouth alumni, artist and fashion designer behind the brand, started it in 2019, advocating for upcycling, sustainable slow-fashion and expressing individuality. Goraka, a Plymouth-based brand by BA (Hons) Fine Art alumni Ash Franceschi, focuses on repairing, mending textiles, clothing alterations and upcycling. <p dir="ltr">With a spectacular waterfront setting and home to the landmark Smeaton’s Tower Lighthouse, Plymouth Hoe will come alive with music as it welcomes 15,000 fans to the first-ever TK Maxx presents Plymouth Summer Sessions. This dynamic location already hosts a variety of year-round events like the British Firework Championships and Plymouth Armed Forces Day and will transform this summer to deliver world-class music. Learn about and hear ballads inspired by the historic moment when Napoleon was imprisoned on board HMS Bellerophon in Plymouth Sound and join in if you’d like to sing along! <p dir="ltr">Show your support and admiration to the participants of the Rehabilitation Triathlon, hosted by the Royal Navy, supported by Plymouth City Council and sponsored by AECOM and The Royal Marines Charity. <p dir="ltr">The exhibition, curated by writer Ekow Eshun, showcases the work of contemporary artists from the African diaspora and highlights the use of figures to illuminate the richness and complexity of Black life. As well as surveying the presence of the Black figure in Western art history, it examines its absence - and the story of representation told through these works, as well as the social, psychological and cultural contexts in which they were produced.
