What's Your Proposition? A peek behind the scenes on our latest campaign shoot

Go behind the scenes and see how we captured the portraits and propositions of our students, recent graduates and alumni for our new campaign.

Our new campaign features thirteen current students, recent graduates and alumni, each with their own compelling story to tell.

From a film student campaigning for change in Northern Ireland and a photography graduate documenting the power of nature in Hungary, to a graphic design student empowering black women in the creative industries, our campaign focuses on allowing each participant to broadcast their own manifesto.

We believe that high-quality education for life in contemporary arts practice is the creative catalyst for personal, professional and cultural transformation, and our manifesto includes ten propositions, written by our Principal Andrew Brewerton, that added to the themes of CREATIVE LEARNING and SOCIAL JUSTICE, define our strategic plans for the future.

Creative direction for the campaign was undertaken by TEMPLO, a branding and digital agency who specialise in creativity for change and have a current client list that includes the United Nations, Amnesty International and the Sorrell Foundation. Together, we invited current students, recent graduates and alumni to create their own propositions for the change they want to see in the world.

During the campaign photoshoot, each person used a specially designed digital writing tool created by TEMPLO which incorporated the words CREATIVE LEARNING and SOCIAL JUSTICE and allowed each participant to write out their own proposition.

As part of our work behind the campaign, we also interviewed each participant and asked them to tell us why they chose their proposition. Each interview will be published both on our website, and in a newspaper that will be available at Open Days and at UCAS events.

To create the powerful imagery that accompanies these interviews, we commissioned photographer Taylor Harford, a recent graduate from our BA (Hons) Commercial Photography for Fashion, Advertising & Editorial programme, assisted by fellow graduate Max Styles.

We are proud to celebrate the skills of our designers and makers by working with graduates from the college, and the portraits created by Taylor will now be distributed nationally in print, adapted for multiple digital purposes and will be used to fill multi-storey windows as eye-catching displays.

Reinforcing the college's commitment to sustainability and supporting local talent, the rest of our creative shoot team were all locally-sourced professionals, and the shoot took place on campus, using our onsite resources.

The Cove, our industry-standard photo studio, was the location selected for the shoot, where Taylor used equipment from the college's Equipment Resource Centre, which houses over 6,000 pieces of the latest professional photography and media kit.

The Cove studio is one of six dedicated media studios on campus, which are freely available to students across all disciplines throughout their studies.

Hair and make up for the shoot was provided by Jo Barker, Creative Director from YOKE the Salon. YOKE is a Plymouth-based, ethical and environmentally-aware salon with a focus on sustainability and using eco-friendly products as well as providing a creative space in the city for artists, photographers and makers.

The behind the scenes video was shot by our in-house video team, Rob Marshall and Aden Barwick - who are also graduates from our BA (Hons) Film programme and run a successful video production company, Round One Films, based in Devon.

Explore our facilities and range of creative programmes at an upcoming Open Day.

@taylorharfordphoto // @maxjstyles // @yokeplymouth // @t_e_m_p_l_o // @roundonefilms

Speak up and create your proposition.

Draw or write yours at whatsyourproposition.com.
