My time at Arts University Plymouth was three of the best years of my life… I absolutely loved my time at Arts University Plymouth, I met some amazing people. The creative space and the access to equipment is just amazing. Being surrounded by so many creatives and artists, it was so inspiring. You are really encouraged to develop your own artistic style which is really lovely, especially compared to some people’s experience of film courses, which are quite restrictive. It’s hard to find this experience anywhere else.

Because Arts University Plymouth is small and specialist, the atmosphere is always good on campus. Everyone is super friendly and welcoming. This was refreshing as I was nervous about the whole university experience, especially as I had never dabbled in anything creative prior to this!

Arts University Plymouth is a unique environment – unlike standard universities, every person studying here is involved in creativity, everyone is making something. The equipment here is the same as what I use in the industry now, and the chance to get to grips with it before you head out into the working world is a massive bonus. The quality and quantity of facilities was much better than most of the other places I visited, and that’s proof of Arts University Plymouth’s progressive mindset; it’s a place that’s looking to thrive, not just survive.

I applied for Landscape Artist of the Year during my final year, using a drawing in one of my rough sketchbooks. The illustration course at Arts University Plymouth was a great chance for me to find the subject matters and mediums that suited me, experimentation was so encouraged. I was able to specialise in wildlife and landscape and have had many opportunities to explore these themes in my work.

I loved my three years at Arts University Plymouth. I made friends there that I’ll have for life, but I also found out so much about myself, my interests, my creative flow and what path I’d like to take going forward. I think the best part of my time was just how at home I felt. I instantly felt accepted and accounted for and it felt like the course was tailored for me!
It was the perfect balance of being forced out of my comfort zone, while also having masses of support to fall back on when things got overwhelming. It was ideal that we had a small class size, it allowed me to have lots of one on one time with my lecturers whenever I needed. It was the perfect course in terms of creative freedom and self expression.
