Harrison Newman

Workshop Coordinator - Wood and Plastics
<p>Harrison studied BA Fine Art at Falmouth University where he specialised in painting and woodwork. After graduating he became a freelance Art Technician working in galleries, and for artists and events including KARST, Wolfgang Winter and Berthold Hörbelt, Plymouth Arts Centre, and The Atlantic Project. While his artistic practice is mostly centered around painting and wood sculpture, he is also interested in digital fabrication techniques and how traditional crafts and modern technologies can be combined to create innovation artistic opportunities.</p> <p>As a Workshop Coordinator here at Arts University Plymouth, Harrison is responsible for the management and maintenance of the woods and plastics workshop. This includes ensuring the safety of staff and students, organising workshops and open access sessions, and running the store where students can buy materials.</p> <p>As a Technician, Harrison sometimes runs workshops as part of Workshop Wednesdays, a rolling program where students can learn skills which may include wood turning or joinery, as well as offering assisted open access to the workshop. Harrison also works on other projects across the college, for example the installation of exhibitions, where he can draw on his prior experience as a freelance Art Technician.</p>
