<p>How has the occult and esoteric influenced art practice throughout the modernist period? The latest edition of Black Mirror seeks to answer this question and foster a better understanding of the role of imaginary worlds and spirituality in recent times.<br /></p>
<p>With an emphasis upon material quality and editorial rigour, leading independent publisher <strong><a href="https://fulgur.co.uk/?v=79cba1185463" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Fulgur</a></strong> seeks to document the impact of magic on modern culture, exploring agency and enchantment through scholarship and practice.</p>
<p>‘Black Mirror 2 - elsewhere’ is the third publication in the series (which began with Black Mirror 0 - Territory, and continued with Black Mirror 1 - Embodiment) and was co-produced by Plymouth College of Art’s Head of Academic Research and Associate Professor, Judith Noble, in collaboration with Dominic Shepherd (AUB), Jesse Bransford (NYU Steinhardt) and Robert Ansell and Merlin Cox (Fulgur). This volume examines the philosophy and practice of twentieth-century pioneers, broadening ideas surrounding the avant-garde, alternative realities and the imaginal.</p>

<p>From early patriarchal heritage through to the feminism and green philosophies of the eighties 'Black Mirror 2 - elsewhere' explores the role of artistic thinking in spiritualism and our complex relationship with the physical world. Regarding the intellect as spiritual whilst subjugating the corporeal, each essay interrogates the divorce of mind from body and showcases the early pioneers of this creative ideology. Themes covered include spectrality, reinvention, punk revival and the transcendental.</p>
