Distance Learning

From material and visual exploration to collaborative working and the exploration of histories and contemporary contexts, as an undergraduate on our Distance Learning programme, you will engage with expert academics, industry mentors and an international peer-group, studying a creative specialism online together in real-time.

Both online and on-campus we provide a dynamic, stimulating learning environment from which to test new models of creative practice while investing in the rich relationship between practice and theory. Our creative programmes encourage diversity in thinking and making - from practical applications through to reflective, analytical writing.

As a January-start student, your learning will be enriched with tailored support from our knowledgeable academics and technicians, all practicing artists and designers, and our campus-based professional services teams including the Learning Lab, IT, Student Support and Students’ Union.

Through video teaching and virtual briefings you will be connected with practicing artists and designers to ensure you experience hands-on specialist training in your chosen subject area. We also place high value on interdisciplinary experimentation, reserving Wednesdays for free non-timetabled teaching outside of your study programme. Find out more about Workshop Wednesdays here.

Our undergraduate curriculum is designed in close consultation with industry professionals, so whether you’re fresh out of further education, a mature learner looking to retrain and re-skill or an international applicant wanting to establish yourself in the UK’s creative sector — here you will have the opportunity to develop the vital, transferable skills necessary to thrive at the forefront of the competitive creative industries.

Each summer our annual external showcase offers final-year students the opportunity to engage with industry and press. From art and design to digital media and traditional making, discover the Class of 2022’s online expo.

Unlike most remote study, our Distance Learning degrees offer synchronous learning, allowing a diverse mix of students across the world to learn together in real-time. From group crits and collaborative projects to peer-to-peer support and virtual events hosted by our Students’ Union, you’ll join a close-knit creative community of 400+ undergraduates.
