During the final year of her degree at Arts University Plymouth, Julie became a resident at Ocean Studios in Royal William Yard, and spent four years there developing her practice alongside other artists and makers. Since graduating from Arts University Plymouth, Julie has had eleven solo shows and participated in around 25 group exhibitions. She has worked with Lympstone Manor, a Michelin star luxury hotel-restaurant led by Michael Caines, and sells work through galleries and art fairs around the country and abroad.
Julie is a process-led painter whose work depicts landscapes derived from imagination, memories and feelings evoked by a 'place' which evolves cohesively with the materials she uses.
"Places tell stories where fragmented fables and memories intermingle. I seek to describe the landscape which exists in actuality and memory. The work is ambiguous, anonymous with incomplete and open narratives, inviting the viewer to bring their own autobiographies and be transported by a desire to transcend to somewhere in the past. Suggestions of habitation appear in the light and structure of possible buildings or ruins where the painting becomes something tangible yet remains fleeting and unattainable."
