Ali Woodhouse

Lecturer
<p>Ali Woodhouse is a film educator and producer who lectures on <a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/courses/undergraduate/ba-hons-film-screen-arts">BA (Hons) Film &amp; Screen Arts</a> at Arts University Plymouth. Her specialism is documentary, and her professional experience spans film production, independent cinema programming and mentoring emerging filmmakers.</p> <p>Ali joined the university’s pre-degree teaching team in January 2020 before moving into undergraduate Film &amp; Screen Arts. Her earlier teaching roles include Exeter College and two years at West Island School in Hong Kong, where she taught International Baccalaureate Film alongside other film and media qualifications.</p> <p>As Digital Film Coordinator and Film Programmer at Exeter Phoenix, Ali supported emerging filmmakers through commissions in documentary, micro shorts and artists’ moving image. She programmed screenings for the venue’s independent cinema, Studio 74, and worked within the team managing Two Short Nights Film Festival, helping to organise discussions, pitching activities and critical feedback sessions.</p> <p>At Exeter-based documentary production company Preston Street Films, Ali worked as Studio Manager and Producer. Her responsibilities included research and development, pitching ideas to commissioning editors, coordinating crews and contributors, and managing budgets and schedules across production, distribution and exhibition.</p> <p>Her wider project experience includes managing <a href="https://www.fabiansfilm.com/culture-data-projector">Culture, Data, Projector</a> for Fabian’s Film, coordinating commissioned artists and a technical team on a 2015 collaboration with Met Office scientists. She also collaborated with The Media Workshop on <em>Escape</em>, a light installation presented at Plymouth’s Illuminate festival in 2019.</p> <p>Ali holds a first-class BA (Hons) in Cultural Media Studies &amp; Film Studies from the University of the West of England and a PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education from the University of Exeter. She completed her Masters with distinction at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, researching expanded cinema exhibition and spectatorship.</p>
