Charlie Warren

<p dir="ltr">Charlie Warren (MA RCA) is an award winning textile artist and academic specialising in hand dyed, painted and screen-printed textiles.<br />Her research at Arts University Plymouth focuses on innovative approaches to dye colouration within an industrial system to actively reduce environmental harm and carbon emissions. A recipient of the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST) scholarship and grants from the Worshipful Company of Haberdashers, Charlie holds an MA in Textile Design from the Royal College of Art. Central to her educational philosophy is empowering students and industry partners to make ecologically informed choices while preserving the authenticity and importance of craftsmanship.<br /> <br />Charlie has a wealth of experience working in industry and was selected by TexPrint (now Tex+) to show her work in London and Paris where she began trading her distinctive hand painted and screen-printed textiles throughout Scandinavia, Europe and America with a wealth of clients including Alexandra McQueen, Ralph Lauren, Club Monaco, Ted Baker, The National Trust, H&amp;M and Marks and Spencer. She was awarded the Digital Innovation Prize at Premiere Vision by pioneering Italian Textile Mill Miroglio with whom she completed a residency. <br /><br />A deep appreciation and connection with the surrounding natural environment forms the foundation of Charlie's work. Her practice is a constant dialogue between the painted surface and the textile response, an interplay between painting and materiality, one informing the other. Opting for a hybrid approach which combines environmentally considered colour with industrial processes often resulting in earthy, pared-back palettes, a suggestion of the terrain underfoot. Charlotte is currently involved in the national lottery funded ‘Fragile Threads’ project in collaboration with Around the World in 80 Fabrics (ATW80F), The Royal School of Needlework (RSN) and (QEST). A project using biodiversity enhancing materials alongside embroidery to craft awareness of our fragile ecosystem.</p> <p dir="ltr">Previously Charlie lectured on the Material Innovation course at Loughborough University. She is affiliated with Inspiring the Future and holds a gold award for the talks and workshops delivered to schools encouraging creativity and craftsmanship.
