Fiona is a Technical Demonstrator in the Textiles department here at Arts University Plymouth. Her primary role is demonstrating a variety of textile processes to students, including rug tufting, industrial and domestic sewing machines and machine knitting.
Fiona gives constant support to our students, helping on a variety of problem solving issues, in particular with product construction. Working closely as part of our textiles Technical team, she also works within the dye lab and the general workshop area.
Fiona holds a BA (Hons) in Applied Arts (2:1) from Arts University Plymouth, where she specialised in ceramics. Previous to embarking upon her degree, she ran a small business designing, making and selling machine-made knitwear.
After completing her degree, Fiona ran her own ceramics workshop for 12 years. Through this, her work was exhibited in a variety of galleries, both locally and nationally.
Fiona has always had a strong interest in textile processes, especially exploring colour and pattern and structure.
Her personal interests are currently machine and hand knitwear, natural dyeing, sewing and jewellery, and she takes inspiration from Northern European folk art.
Fiona has also completed the PETTLS qualification in teaching.
