Ian Hutchinson

<p dir="ltr"><strong>Ian Hutchinson</strong> is Director of Development and Partnerships at Arts University Plymouth; he leads the Office for Research and Innovation (ORI), Academic and Development Partnerships, and <a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/resources/fab-lab">Fab Lab South West</a>. </p> <p dir="ltr">Ian is a member of the Vice-Chancellor’s Management group, providing strategic leadership in innovation, knowledge exchange, business diversification, and external partnerships across the university. Ian provides a key role in the strategic development of the university’s research culture and infrastructure through membership of the University’s <a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/visit/the-gallery">MIRROR</a> (gallery) Advisory Group and the Research and Innovation Committee. He also holds the position of Research Integrity Officer for the university, is a staff representative on the Arts University Plymouth Charitable Trust and co-founder of Fab City Plymouth.</p> <p dir="ltr">Since joining Arts University Plymouth in 2018, Ian has been instrumental in establishing the university as a regional leader in innovation and knowledge exchange. As Project Lead and Producer, he has overseen major multi-partner initiatives such as: the iMayflower programme which included the <a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/research/supported-projects/smart-citizens-programme-scp">Smart Citizens Programme</a> and Illuminate; the <a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/research/supported-projects/atlantic-youth-creative-hubs">Atlantic Youth Creative Hub</a>; <a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/research/supported-projects/hidden-talent-in-devon">Hidden Talent in Devon</a>; <a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/research/supported-projects/green-minds">Green Minds</a>; <a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/research/supported-projects/seed-strategic-employer-engagement-in-devon">SEED</a>; <a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/research/supported-projects/triple-edge">Triple E-dge</a>; the <a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/research/supported-projects/big-data-and-environmental-futures-impact-lab">Environmental Futures and Big Data Impact Lab</a>; and the international touring exhibition, <a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/posts/another-crossing-on-remembrance-myths">Another Crossing</a><em>.</em></p> <p dir="ltr">Ian is a champion for civic responsibility and Knowledge Exchange as a means to connect communities with creative and cultural opportunities and promote creative practice, entrepreneurship, sector growth, and place-based partnerships. He innovated and launched Arts University Plymouth’s <a href="https://www.aup.ac.uk/alumni/workroom-grow">Workroom GROW</a> and CREATE programmes to support our Alumni as well, and the Creative Associates initiative, which invites professional artists into our creative community.</p> <p dir="ltr">As a producer with over three decades of experience, Ian has delivered highly acclaimed projects spanning film, visual, public and live arts, computational design, and architectural responses within contemporary art and digital culture.</p> <p dir="ltr">Ian’s earlier career includes leadership and creative roles at organisations such as Plymouth Arts Centre, Mitchell Arts Centre, Norwich Arts Centre, Site Gallery Sheffield, Untitled Gallery, Groundwork South, and the BFI National Archive.<br /></p>
