Katie O'Brien
Head of Human Resources
<p dir="ltr">Katie heads up the Human Resources team at Arts University Plymouth, leading the transformation of the service through the university’s first strategic People Plan. Drawing on her professional curiosity she enjoys engaging with various stakeholders, and supporting HR solutions which are fair and transparent. Katie’s focus is to use her experience to lead the development of employee engagement, wellbeing and creating resources to support line managers and employees alike.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Following an established early career in administration and management, Katie’s passion for people development inspired a career change into Human Resources in 2017. Since then Katie has worked across a number of sectors from supporting SMEs, public authorities, hospitality and retail; to Civil Service and Higher Education across the South West. Her roles have included business partnering, management training and consultancy all benefiting from her keen interest in employment law and complex employee relations matters. </p>
<p dir="ltr">As a mature student Katie graduated from University of Plymouth with a Masters in Human Resources, and an associated Level 7 qualification from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) in 2021. Having previously been the Executive PA to the Principal & CEO nearly 20 years ago, Katie returned to Arts University Plymouth to take on the role of Head of Human Resources in 2022. More recently Katie successfully became a Chartered Member of the CIPD.<br /></p>
