Katie grew up in Norfolk and after spending most summers falling in love with the South West, moved to Plymouth to study BA (Hons) Education Studies at the University of Plymouth in 2014. Her love of the subject continued and she completed an MA in Education in 2018 with a focus on learning for sustainability. Whilst studying, Katie was a student ambassador for the Next Steps South West project and grew a passion for supporting students who face barriers within education, particularly with their career decisions and next steps.
This passion led her to Careers Education. She worked for the Inspiration Trust, a multi academy school trust for three years, as a Careers Facilitator, working in two Norwich schools where she wrote and delivered their career programme and supported students with their future destinations. Here, she worked closely with the Norwich Opportunity Area who aimed to raise social mobility in the area. Through this, she also became an ‘Opportunity Area Champion’ which aimed to share best practice with local colleagues.
In 2022, she decided to move back to her university city where she joined Arts University Plymouth and Next Steps South West to deliver their programme in local schools. This continues to fuel her passion for supporting students in their next steps and providing guidance in their career decisions. In 2023, she completed her Level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance and Development, qualifying her as a Careers Advisor.
In her spare time, Katie enjoys exploring Devon’s beautiful countryside, reading and getting creative.
