Ri Chakraborty

<p>Ri Chakraborty joined Arts University Plymouth in November 2025 as incoming Chair, following a robust and competitive process, succeeding Dr Sue Brownlow in August 2026.</p> <p>A trained Broadcast Journalist, and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Ri holds highly reputable expertise in governance and advisory roles. With established Board and Chair roles at Arts Universities and Arts organisations, she has completed a six-year tenure on the Board at Norwich University of the Arts. As their Chair of People Committee, and Link Governor for Student Experience and Belonging, Ri helped to restructure and reshape outcomes for the student and staff body ensuring a more collegiate and holistic approach ready for OFS and NSS regulatory guidelines.</p> <p>Previous Chair of Arts Council England organisations, includes: The Space Digital Arts, and Chair of South Asian Performing Arts Company, Aakash Odedra Dance, ensuring commitment to arts, culture, heritage, and its potential to democratise access to creativity and innovation. </p> <p>Outside of prominent Governance duties, Ri is a senior Executive Producer and Commissioner, with over 30 years’ experience in the audio-visual &amp; creative sectors. She supports teams across the globe with transformational leadership, overseeing a variety of global film productions and createch content. Additionally, her recent arts' strategy work spans £multi-million International Arts Councils. Championing for wider, inclusive, representation across the Arts, Ri's aim is for talented, underrepresented voices to be seen across all creative sectors, including AI /CreaTech; here she acts as an advisor and expert for a number of innovation departments such as UKRI and International Advisor for Woxsen University, School of Arts and Design. With social justice at her core, she also advocates for more support with digital poverty and accessibility in the creative sectors and creative education.</p>
