<p>This project involved the co-creation of a series of eight large-scale public murals at the North Cross subways in Plymouth, developed in collaboration with Eleanor Tomas as part of the wider Armada Way regeneration and a public art commission led by Plymouth Culture. Located at North Cross Roundabout, an early 1970s post-war development by Patrick Abercrombie and James Paton-Watson, the site is a key arrival point for visitors leaving the train station and receives hundreds of people daily. The project sought to reframe this space as a vibrant cultural gateway into the city.</p> <p>Selected through an open call responding to the question “What makes Plymouth Britain’s Ocean City?”, the proposal was chosen for its emphasis on humour, positivity, and colour. Each mural draws on local narratives, referencing the sea, moor, and distinct aspects of Plymouth’s identity. Designed by Lewry and Tomas and realised with street artists Roy Christie and Lee Jackson, the project contributes to placemaking by enhancing accessibility, visibility, and civic pride.</p>
